Who We Are

Our Legacy – A Journey of Binational Impact

Founded in the heart of Chicago, the Binational Institute of Human Development (BIHD) was created to address the real challenges faced by immigrant communities. From its earliest days, it has served as a bridge of hope and opportunity, guiding thousands of families on their journey toward legal, economic, and social stability. Since its founding, the Binational Institute of Human Development (BIHD) has stood as a champion for immigrants, advocating across borders and building programs that respond to the real and urgent needs of our communities.

From a Local Dream to a Continental Mission

What began in Chicago’s Latino neighborhoods as a grassroots movement to offer immigration help and cultural support has evolved over more than a decade into a binational powerhouse with offices in Illinois, Texas, and Mexico.

Throughout this journey, BIHD has worked directly with immigrants — not only to defend their rights but to help them thrive as workers, entrepreneurs, and leaders.

We’ve helped:

Thousands of families secure immigration status and avoid deportation.
Survivors of domestic violence and youth obtain special protections.
Migrants from Mexico, Guatemala, Venezuela, and Ukraine access urgent legal help.
Entrepreneurs formalize and grow businesses across Chicago’s immigrant corridors.
Returnees and retirees navigate real estate, inheritance, and reintegration in Mexico.

Our work is guided by the principles of:

Justice beyond borders.
Economic empowerment.
Cultural dignity.
Responsive, community-rooted service.

Mission

Our mission is to accompany and empower immigrants and their families through legal, financial, health, and business development services. We strive to be more than just a resource: we aim to be a trusted ally that opens pathways to justice, inclusion, and comprehensive well-being, building stronger and safer communities.

Vision

We aspire to become a binational reference that transforms communities through education, rights advocacy, and the creation of opportunities. We envision a future where immigrant families not only find support but also a place where they can flourish in dignity, solidarity, and shared prosperity.
