Casa México USA is a program of the Binational Institute of Human Development (BIHD) created to support Mexican immigrants living in the United States and their families in Mexico through legal, economic, social, cultural, and binational assistance.
This program recognizes the unique and historic relationship between Mexico and the United States, a relationship deeply shaped by immigration, labor, trade, politics, family separation, remittances, culture, and the constant movement of people, ideas, services, and opportunities across both countries. For millions of Mexican nationals in the U.S., their lives are not limited to one side of the border. Their families, legal needs, economic responsibilities, cultural identity, and future opportunities are often connected to both nations.
Casa México USA is especially important because it was the first major program developed by BIHD after completing its official representation of the Government of Mexico City in the U.S. Midwest from 2009 to 2012. During that period, BIHD assisted immigrants from Mexico City and many other Mexican states in obtaining essential documentation from their city or state of origin so they could address immigration, legal, identification, and family needs in the United States.
Through that historic work, BIHD helped Mexican nationals obtain documents such as birth certificates, civil registry records, vital records, and other official documents from Mexico. BIHD also assisted individuals with access to Mexican driver’s licenses and other identity related services that helped many immigrants move forward with their immigration cases, employment, family responsibilities, and integration into life in the United States.
One of the most innovative services offered during that period was “Medicina a Distancia,” a pioneering 24/7 medical teleconference program created through the Secretary of Health of Mexico City at no cost, in collaboration with agreements involving the City of Chicago, the American Diabetes Association, Access Community Health Network, and other partners. This program allowed BIHD to help provide medical consultation, follow-up, and health guidance to immigrant families who faced barriers to healthcare access in the United States.
BIHD also played an important role in strengthening binational relations by helping oversee agreements and memorandums of understanding between the Government of Mexico City and the City of Chicago, as well as collaborations with the State of Illinois, the Illinois State Legislature, and other public and community institutions. In addition, BIHD promoted cultural, artistic, educational, and civic events that celebrated Mexican identity and strengthened the relationship between Mexico City, Chicago, Illinois, and Mexican communities in the United States.
After completing that important cycle of representation, BIHD had gained a deep and direct understanding of the most urgent needs affecting Mexican immigrants, not only from Mexico City, but from every region of Mexico. However, with limited resources and a growing number of community needs, BIHD had to make a strategic decision about where its work could have the greatest and most immediate impact.
After witnessing the serious legal vulnerability of our community, and the abuse, misinformation, and exploitation that many immigrants faced from individuals and organizations of different backgrounds, BIHD determined that immigration legal assistance had to become a top priority. For that reason, immediately after Casa México USA, BIHD created its second major program: The Immigration and Legal Center. Through this program, BIHD committed itself to representing and guiding immigrants through their immigration processes with dignity, professionalism, honesty, and compassion.
Casa México USA continued as the binational bridge for Mexican nationals and their families, while the Immigration and Legal Center became the legal protection arm of BIHD’s mission, helping Mexican immigrants and other immigrant communities stabilize, integrate, and build a safer future in the United States without losing their connection to their roots, their culture, and their families in Mexico.
Today, Casa México USA provides programs specifically designed for Mexican immigrants in the United States and their families in Mexico, including:
Immigration and Legal Representation
Casa México USA connects Mexican nationals with trusted immigration assistance, including family petitions, adjustment of status, removal defense, asylum-related matters when applicable, U visas, VAWA, waivers, consular process guidance, and other immigration services through BIHD’s Immigration and Legal Center.
Small Business Development and Economic Empowerment
Many Mexican immigrants are entrepreneurs, workers, contractors, vendors, and family business owners. Through BIHD’s business development programs, Casa México USA helps individuals start, formalize, manage, and grow their businesses in the United States through training, business planning, marketing guidance, financial literacy, tax education, and access to resources.
Binational Documentation and Family Support
Casa México USA assists families with guidance related to documents from Mexico, civil registry matters, family records, identity documentation, and referrals or coordination when families need support connected to institutions in Mexico.
Health, Education, Culture, and Community Integration
Casa México USA promotes access to information, workshops, cultural programs, community education, and partnerships that help Mexican immigrants better understand systems in the United States while maintaining pride in their Mexican heritage.
Legal and Administrative Services in Mexico
Casa México USA has expanded its vision even further through BIHD’s services in Mexico City. Many Mexican immigrants living in the United States continue to face legal, civil, family, property, inheritance, and documentation issues in Mexico. In many cases, these matters affect their immigration process, family stability, property rights, children, or ability to organize their future across both countries. Through its Mexico City office and binational network, BIHD assists Mexican nationals in the U.S. who need to resolve legal or administrative matters in Mexico without necessarily having to travel.
These services include assistance with the correction and clarification of civil records, obtaining Mexican birth, marriage, divorce, and death certificates, property transactions and title registration, family law matters such as divorce, custody, child support, and parental rights, international child abduction cases, homologation of foreign judgments, testaments and inheritance procedures, dual nationality support, U.S. birth certificate matters, travel authorizations for minors, U.S. visa applications, family reunification support, and repatriation or reintegration services for returnees.
Casa México USA also supports U.S. citizens, Mexican-Americans, and expatriates who live in Mexico or wish to establish legal, personal, family, educational, property, or business ties there. These services may include Mexican visa processing, renewals and regularization, naturalization support when applicable, civil litigation and legal representation, real estate acquisition, business setup, homologation of U.S. court judgments, family law matters for expatriates, and education access for U.S.-born children in Mexico.
Through personalized evaluations, bilingual legal professionals, representation through powers of attorney when travel is not feasible, and a network of experts throughout Mexico, Casa México USA helps families resolve complex cross-border matters with clarity, responsibility, and cultural understanding.

Casa México USA is more than a program. It is a bridge between two countries, two histories, and two realities. It honors the contribution of Mexican immigrants to the United States while recognizing their continuing connection to Mexico. Through this initiative, BIHD continues its commitment to dignity, identity, legal protection, economic advancement, cultural pride, and full integration for Mexican families on both sides of the border.
In this way, Casa México USA is not simply a program of services. It is a binational platform of protection, identity, legal support, economic development, and family continuity—created to serve Mexican immigrants in the United States and their loved ones in Mexico with the dignity, seriousness, and historical understanding that this community deserves.
